Workshop Details and Biography

Land Art - Nicholette Goff

Quiraing Lodge is a tranquil corner in which to think, imagine and be creative. Land artist Nicholette Goff will lead workshops using the shores and grounds around Quiraing Lodge as inspiration to make sculptures and land imprints from natural materials.

We will look at the work of Andy Goldsworthy, Chris Drury and other land artists.

We will read poems and other writings by artists who have been inspired by Skye.

We will listen to the natural sounds, songs and music of the area.

And we will look at other 2 and 3 dimensional work by artists inspired by Skye.

Most importantly, we will have fun, be creative and learn lots!

The week starts with a 2-day workshop for youngsters, followed by a more involved workshop for adults over 3 days

Small Footprints on the Shore - Land Art Family Days
July 7th - 8th 2003

For children aged between 6 and 15 years, accompanied by an adult.
You don't need any previous experience.
A list of simple things to bring will be sent on booking.
Come for both days if you can but you will be welcomed on either day.
Refreshments will be provided including picnics on the beach!

There will be a number of simple, fun projects during the 2 days, some of them on the beach close to the Lodge.
Some of your creativity will be washed away by the tide or the weather, and some can be taken away as permanent art!

SOME EXAMPLES OF BEACH ART -

Sand Drawing. There’s lots of sand at low tide, and we will see who can make the most creative sand drawing!

Prints in the Sand. Your own footprints or handprints cast on the shoreline, in plaster with water from the bay. You will be able to take the cast home with you as a memento!

Temporary artwork on the shoreline. We will walk along the shoreline collecting materials to turn into sculptures at appropriate places.

Video and photos. We will video and photograph some, perhaps all, of the above, and participants will be able to take away a record of even temporary artwork!

£20 each day, £35 both days, B&B extra.
