Coptic Binding
Thursday October 28th – Tuesday November 2nd
An intermediate (and die hard beginners) workshop on this popular
and striking style of non-adhesive binding dating back almost 2000 years.
Make a sketch book, journal or event book that will be the envy of all
your friends!
We start by folding paper into several sections which will make up
the pages of the book.
Depending on the character of the book you choose to make, these can
be of either good quality hand or machine made paper.
separate day is spent in preparing the boards and sections for sewing.
Laura's approach to accuracy and proper tool use means that even beginners
can achieve an end result to be justifiably proud of.
Up to two books, using alternate covering materials can be made by
students more comfortable with the binding procedures but everyone will
manage to make at least one striking artefact book.
Plenty of supporting notes are provided enabling students to expand
on their skills and make other similar bindings at home.
Residential fee - £395, non residential
fee £275
Inclusive of - 5 nights accommodation and all meals, 4 full
days of tuition, practice and materials.
3 – 8 participants

Multi Section
Binding
September 12th – 18th
Do you have a special book project in mind but little or no book-binding
experience?
We begin the workshop with the basics of paper handling and tool use
and move on to the use of adhesives.
After making at least one hardcover note book to take with you or use
for further note taking here, you will have the choice of making a sketch
book, placing hard covers on your favourite paper back book, covering
a thesis or making an album for a special event.
Phone, email or write in advance to discuss your project so materials
can be arranged.
Residential fee - £470, non
residential fee £340
Inclusive of - 6 nights accommodation and all meals, 5 full days of
tuition, practice and reasonable materials.
3 – 8 participants
