Workshop Details and Biography
A Fine Light - Fay
Godwin
Wednesday June 23rd to Tuesday June 29th
A workshop with Fay Godwin always promises to be a very special event!
Fay will share her commitment, artistry, skills and experience with
all participants in what may become, for some, a life-changing event.
Fay has led many enjoyable and successful workshops organised by Sam
in the South East of England, and this will be the first time Fay has
worked with Sam and Suzy on the Isle of Skye!
It is likely to be Fay’s only residential workshop of 2004.
On Wednesday evening we will gather for an informal introductory dinner
– a chance to meet Fay and your fellow participants and to settle
in to the creative ambiance of Quiraing Lodge and the workshop.
Over the next five days, Fay will share much of her experience of being
one of the most successful and celebrated British photographers of the
last 30 years. Fay will guide and teach you with aspects of camera work
in the field, darkroom work and the production of fine prints. Selection
and sequencing of images for exhibition and book production will undoubtedly
be covered in various ways. And there will be many invigorating, sometimes
surprising, discussions about photography and the issues it involves!
Fay will talk about much of her work from her days of PR portrait
photography, through her most known work, the landscapes she is renowned
for, through to more recent less known intimate colour work including
her current digital colour work.
Participants will be expected to bring a small folio of their own work,
(both completed and in progress). We will critique this during the workshop,
and Fay’s incisive and intuitive critique will be of immense value.
There will be plenty of opportunities to get out and about to enjoy
the wondrous landscapes of Skye, both as part of the group and as individuals.
You’ll be able to make loads of photographs, and some of these
will be processed and printed to enable some feedback on your current
work, and also to enable us to stage a celebratory exhibition on the
final evening! If there are specific aspects of your photography you
wish to work on this is usually possible and rewarding.
Fay will have with her many of her books and also a wide selection
of her fine prints, including both old favourites and less known newer
work both books and prints may be bought, many at prices only available
on a workshop!
Residential fee £545, non residential
fee £395, inclusive of 6 nights
accommodation and all meals, workshop tuition, some materials and travel
whilst on the workshop.
